Seventy Two years ago L.R. "Tommy" Tompkins founded Tompkins Printing Equipment Company. The Transportation Building at 608 South Dearborn Street, in the heart of "Printers Row" was his first home. Tompkins would spend the next 45 years in that neighborhood.

Tompkins quickly outgrew this first home and moved to larger quarters at 705 South Dearborn Street. In the early days, the main activity at Tompkins was rebuilding letterpress presses and related equipment.

In the years that followed, Tompkins became a distributor for many well-known manufacturers and in time outgrew the Dearborn Street facility. In 1945, the company moved into expanded quarters at 712 South Clark Street, where Tompkins spent the next 30 years.

Continued growth, changing technology and the addition of many new equipment lines prompted Tompkins next move. In 1976 the company moved into our present facility - a 26,000 square foot facility, just minutes away from O'Hare International Airport and all major expressways. Through the years, several expansions and renovations have occurred.

Today, Tompkins handles the worlds finest digital imaging systems, direct to plate and direct to press, automated conventional presses, bindery and computerized finishing and material handling systems. A multi-million dollar inventory of new equipment along with an extensive selection of pre-owned equipment is always on display. We ship in excess of 600 machines annually.

Tompkins enters its 73rd year with enthusiasm and a dedication to providing our customers with the very finest in equipment, technology and service.

Everyone at Tompkins is working hard to earn your confidence!
